A&E: MURDER AT THE MOTEL
I created a graphics package to promote A&E's new series: Murder at the Motel. Working with Sr. Writer/Producer Jeanette Rudnicki, I designed a package of animated assets that helped bring audiences into the eerie, ominous world of the show.
THE ASK:
We needed to translate the show’s key art (designed by the A&E internal team) into an animated end page, then create a series of assets that would build on that image to form a cohesive world. It needed to feel like all the assets came from the same seedy motel.
THE ELEMENTS:
I created title cards, a coda, and an animation for A&E’s “Crime & Investigation” show category. I also integrated the A&E logo into footage from the trailer. The assets were built by compositing stock imagery in Photoshop and After Effects. I worked to keep a consistent tone through color, the use of shadow and light, and a neon-sign text treatment.
THE MOTION:
Each scene had a subtle camera movement through faux 3D space. In some cases this was achieved by delicately cutting out layers of an image and staggering them in z-space, in other cases it was achieved through a technique called ‘projection mapping’ where planes of an image are projected into 3D space that a camera can travel through, giving a richer sense of depth to flat images.
